wear it three ways

Everyday style is such a personal choice but if you keep these three simple ideas uppermost in your mind, you will find that your best looks are always simple and rather easy to achieve.

I find that the number one thing that allows every woman to look and feel their best is to only wear styles that make you feel good.  Regardless of what the "hot items" might be at the moment, if they are pieces that don't leave you feeling confident and with your head in good place, then they will not translate favorably no matter how on trend they are.

Pieces that flatter your figure and accentuate the things you love about your body are what you need to turn towards.  Whether that might be long shapely legs or a striking hourglass figure, your clothing choices should highlight what you love about you.

Another important thing to consider when building your wardrobe is what is your color scheme.  Are you a bright and bold sort of girl, do you prefer a lot of patterns and prints in your closet or is basic black more your comfort zone?

For me, I can say I am one hundred percent a neutral lover.  So, whenever I add something to collection I always consider how it will play with those classic soft shades and balance out what I already own.  This charcoal grey knit dress is the perfect example of a neutral that would work effortlessly well with blacks, caramels, ivories and those deeper jewel toned colors I know I will be wearing all season.

Finally, if you have been following along for even just a little while, then you already know that I am dedicated the "Wear It Three Ways" rule of fashion.  Simply stated, if I can't wear a piece three different ways and love all of them, it doesn't come home with me.  I find that when you love shopping and clothing as much as I do, this standard rule of thumb really does help to keep me from buying more than I need and more than I will use.

And there they are, my three keys to everyday style that I live by.  I hope they help you to find the key to the looks and styles you love too.

It's no secret.  You all know it.  I love clothes.  No day would be complete without an OOTD that makes me happy, haha.  I'm only slightly kidding.  Life is full of choices and the ones that make you feel good are my favorite.

Friends will always ask me, "Should I buy this?" whenever they're contemplating adding something new to their closet and my answer never changes.  I always ask back these two questions, "Do you love it?" and "Can you wear it at least three ways?"  The answer to both must be yes, at least for me, otherwise, it goes back on the rack.

I've always been true to this rule of thumb and never regretted it.  Let's face it, clothing can be expensive and most definitely an investment.  If you love it, then you know you are going to always want to wear it.  And, if you wear it at least three ways then you will do that without anyone ever realizing you've ever even worn it before.

Besides that, you will never grow tired of these pieces when you are able to reinvent them over time.  Okay, so how do we do that exactly?  Well, it's not as tricky as it sounds.  Basically, for me, I like to decide how I would wear a particular piece across three platforms.  Meaning, can I dress it up for say drinks and dinner?  Will this piece be something I can wear with more casual pieces that I already love?  And can it be paired with the other colors, fabrics and styles already hard at work in my wardrobe?

The basic blazer is probably the perfect example of how this all plays out.  This black blazer is a staple in my wardrobe right now.  Some women don't think of themselves as being able to easily wear this piece and look fabulous doing it but trust me, we all can.  Whether you are channeling a feminine look, want to sport some style that is borrowed from the boys or you are a girl after my own heart and simply cannot get enough of classic glamour - ever, this piece will work for you, effortlessly.

To accentuate your feminine ways and fix the focus upon the fact that you are all woman, make the foundation of your look a pretty little piece like this smocked ruffle dress.  Completely girlie and flattering on so many sizes, it gives the perfect juxtaposition to the otherwise menswear-inspired piece.  I would also add in a structured bag like this classic one.  Then, for an unexpected bit of fun, these sneakers round out the look and balance the casually looking cute feel.

On another day, pull out these highrise straight leg jeans.  (This pair has such a fantastic fit making it yet another "Wear it Three Ways" piece itself but that is another story for another day's post.)  I like to pair them with a simple, easy neutral tee (love this one), a classic pair of sneakers and a beautiful neutral tan bag.  So obsessed with this brand right now.  The color combination is one of my favorites and these low key pieces make for a second great way to style the blazer.

A third way to wear this jacket beautifully is to turn to classic pieces to pair it with.  Oh yes, this is my most favorite way.  Can you tell?  What could be better than a classic pair of blue jeans, a crisp white button-down, some gorgeous black slingback flats, a bit of gold jewelry and the classic jacket to top it off?  You are correct, nothing.  Haha, well nothing in my closet at least.  But seriously, these classic pieces that we all undoubtedly own in one form or another are the absolute best pieces to pair with a blazer in my humble opinion of course.  My Pinterest is filled with these classic glam examples I realize and that always speaks volumes.  Never ignore what your boards are telling you, haha, never.

So there you have it.  Three ways to wear this classic piece.  Autumn is such a perfect time to add a new piece or two to your wardrobe or to go through your closet of things you already own.  And now I hope you can see how easy it is to give them new life by pairing them in some unexpected or never thought of ways.

I do just love when things work out like that.  I hope you found it helpful too.  Please let me know what other style tips you'd like to see for the season.  I'll keep sending them your way!

Whenever a friend tells me she can't wear a particular style or silhouette it always leaves me feeling a little sad because I'm totally certain that she is wrong.  As women, we often feel like certain styles just aren't for our bodies because we've spent so much time picking ourselves apart.  Today I want to bust that myth and prove to you all that you can pretty much wear anything you want as the magic lives in how you style it.

The skinny jean has sometimes gotten a bad rap because of the way they can hug your curves in all the places that can cause a girl to feel self-conscious or at the very least, a little anxious.  We've all been there, am I right?  Haha, well let's take a look at three ways to wear it with one for for every body.

Cardigans are a girl's best friend for so many reasons with the way they play with skinny jeans being only one.  This ribbed open front cardi is one of my favorites styles.  I love that it comes with the added surprise of this fresh for fall color, making it perfect to pair with some much loved new neutrals.  You all know how hard I've fallen for these animal print mules and this hat is the perfect piece to add a little sass to the whole look.  Stay super comfy with this cami layered beneath and round things out with a cute convertible crossbody bag that pulls the entire look together head to toe.

Another option for when you want to feel like your wearing yoga pants but look a little more put together is to grab a blazer and give a nod to the boys.  This menswear-inspired piece has been a tried and true favorite forever.  I particularly like the plaid pattern of this one as I think it makes it super fun and easily sporty.  A newsboy cap (which is quite possible my favorite style hat of all time!), mesh banded watch, these darling little sneakers and some cool shades (these are a splurge but sooo worth it!) will have you looking like London all while killing the skinny jean vibe.

Not to be left out, the off-the-shoulder sweater once again comes to the rescue as it is the perfect way to top off these jeans in this most unexpected color.  When I first saw them I honestly thought, "What would I do with this shade?" but I've since fallen in love.  That's mostly because the mix of neutrals you are seeing here, featuring greens, cognacs and ivories, is always so on point come fall.  This bag would be beautiful worn with this outfit as well as with just about everything else your fall closet has happening inside.  These ankle boots are a favorite pair from the Nsale and again the possibilities for how to wear them is endless.

Anyone else feeling a whole lot of inspo as to how to wear these jeans that were once for "tall and skinny" girls only?  Haha, I hope you all are because there are two things worth knowing...If you know how to pair it, you can wear just about anything and that is a wonderful thing.  And, every body is beautiful and as a women should never feel any other way.

Wishing you all a beautiful Monday, thanks for reading!

If you're reading this post the likelihood is you love clothes just as much as I do.  When this is the case, it seems only logical that you want your purchases to work for you.  I have mindset when it comes to whatever I buy and that is, I have to be able to style it three ways.  Whether we are talking a  sweater, skirt, jacket or perfect pair of shoes, it needs to pass the "Three Ways to Wear It" test.  Verrrrry few items find their way into my closet otherwise, haha.  The camel coat passes with flying colors or at least gorgeous neutrals.  It can do daytime casual with cognacs, creams and dark denim.  Later it can take you out at night with leopard and leather.  And finally, it can enjoy being off duty alongside baseball caps and sneakers.

I love all of these looks, each for different reasons.  What about you all?  Do you have a rule for building your wardrobe.  This one really works for me and keeps me from buy everything I find, ha!   I'd love to hear yours.  Thanks for stopping by!
