September is under way and it's time to start redesigning our closets and wardrobes to reflect the change in seasons.  While new clothes are always, (always!) exciting, Mother Nature so often proves fickle with the turn of the calendar page.  Not to worry, you can still effortlessly put together fall friendly finds in a way that will carry you through from chilly mornings to sun-kissed afternoons and back to a cool nightfall.

The easy answer to all this is layering.  Brilliant and simple, this is the fashion formula for fluctuating temperatures.  Let's take a peek at a few simple steps:

1.  Light and fitted:  Your first layer should be close enough to the body to allow other pieces to easily glide over top yet loose enough to be comfortable.  Try starting off with a short or long-sleeved tee.  This will be your first layer but may end up being all you need at some point in the day.  With that in mind, you'll want to add some personality and style to it by incorporating a favorite print or pattern (think stripes, florals, polka dots, color-blocking or a graphic tee).

2.  A Cozy Cover-Up  Next up you'll want a soft and comfy layer that both gives warmth and sports style all its own.  Cardis, vests, blouses and cocoon sweaters are perfectly placed here.  Remember, this is only your second layer so its purpose is to provide warmth not bulk.  Choose fabrics that will do just that by leaning towards cotton knits, cashmere, soft washed denim or merino wool.

3.  Jacket Required  When the day starts off chilly and crisp, you'll be glad you grabbed your favorite go-to jacket.  This season, the offerings are plenty and plush.  Some of the scene stealers you'll love include the much coveted moto jacket, the bell-shaped swing,  quilted and leather detailing designs, mixed media inspired styles (think leather and tweed so happy together) and oversized styles with spice (aka prints or patterns).  Choose something versatile enough to work with plenty of other pieces in your  wardrobe, yet styled as such to really capture your personal style and essence.

4.  Add-on Accessories  Now for the fun part...  Take your look to the next and add warmth with happy little touches.  A great scarf can be an excellent addition to any outfit all throughout the year.  When the weather first starts to turn cooler,  a soft knit cotton scarf will be the perfect choice.  Once again, the options are endless. From animal prints to snazzy stripes, you'll find what ever you fancy and then some.  As days turn cooler and temps fall further, trade in those choices for chunky knits and circular styles.  {More ideas on how to style a scarf will be coming up soon....stay tuned.}

Now, with so many ways to look lovely and stay comfortable, who wouldn't be in love with autumn?  How will you be layering this fall?  Have a wonderful Wednesday and thanks for stopping over!
