Accessories make the outfit and spring scarves are the perfect element for taking things from ho-hum  to  style savvy.  The softer, sweeter and sometimes sassier sister of chunky winter wraps, these gauzy go-to pieces are my favorite way to amp up any look.  Leopard print has long been touted as the new neutral and it's so easy to see why.  It works so effortlessly with nearly every color and can either high or low.  I love it paired with a casual black shirt dress, an army jacket, these sandals and a great leather bag for day.  At night, it makes a great accent to black silk shorts, a rolled-sleeve blouse and sexy heels (love these).  Bright, colorful pops are also major craves.  J. Crew has some of the loveliest options available right now.  This pink and white patterned one is beyond pretty and the perfect choice to keep handy.  I'm thinking of pairing it it with a loose peasant style top, these cute shorts, this leather hobo  and a
panama hat.  The warmer weather can not arrive soon enough! You can shop the links below if you are ready for it too!

Much like the rest of the fashion world, I watched Monday's Presidential Inauguration with anticipation, admiration and inspiration as First Lady, Michelle Obama, did what she's been known to do so effortlessly well....embody grace, poise and elegance throughout yet another historic event.  Amid the curious and often critical eye of public, Mrs. Obama always emerges the gracious style icon of the new era.  This week was no exception.

Her decision to begin the day donning an elegantly tailored Thom Browne coat and dress, in the classic American hue of navy blue, gave evidence to the fact that the First Lady was staying true to her personal style of American glamour.  Pairing these pieces with heels by her go-to favorite, J. Crew, gave a nod to achievable style that all women could emulate.   We later saw more from the American favorite as the cold weather called for the addition of their plum leather gloves and a pair of Reed Krakoff boots.  A bit of sparkle was seen as well in the form of a jeweled J. Crew belt.

The First Daughters were similarly stunning in both Kate Spade and J. Crew classics.  Their colors of choice, with Sasha sporting both a Kate Spade dress and coat in purple shades and Malia doing the same in J. Crew shades of magenta, were refreshing and reflective of their youthful energy and ambition.

With the formalities behind them, Michelle and her dancing partner, President Obama, stepped out at the Inaugural Balls where she chose to once again honor Jason Wu.  Wearing a floor length ruby-toned chiffon and velvet dress, Mrs. Obama displayed her well-known preference for a slightly fitted bodice that transitions into an easy fitting style.  Her jewelry choices for the evening included a handcrafted diamond embellished ring by Kimberly McDonald.  On her feet were a pair of ever-famous Jimmy Choos.

Yes, it was clearly a collective "ahhh" moment for all of the First Lady's fashion followers.  Much like that of Jackie Kennedy who came before her, Michelle has come to epitomize the American lady whose style and strength come from knowing and honoring who she is.

Wishing you a beautiful Friday!
XO,

Kelly
