Collection cashmere polka-dot sweater
J. CREW is ready for the first of fall with polka dot perfection.  Their Italian cashmere collection is gorgeously developed each season with custom colors that boast brand new depth, saturation and brightness.  These classic pieces are designed to become classic favorites.  It's easy to see that this long and lean crewneck is already doing just that!  Be sure to order early (and often) as these pieces always go very quickly and at times, are retired rather than replenished.  So, if you want it, get it now to avoid disappointment.  Also be sure to note that if you are a student or a teacher.....you can receive 15% off your purchase.  Just another fantastic reason to love this American favorite!

Here are a few more...

Tippi sweater in polka dot
Another take on the spotted trend.  The Tippi sweater features larger dots and a three-quarter length sleeve designed in a lighter weight, Merino wool in a 14 gauge knit.

Blythe blouse in polka dot

The Blythe blouse transitions us from summer to fall by being the perfect piece to pair and layer.  Shown here with sunny yellow, it plays very nicely as a late summer look.  As fall takes the stage, it can be just as easily paired with mustard, cherry or dark denim skinnies and worn under a blazer or soft sweater for warmth and style all wrapped in one.

Tie-neck top in dot

This tie neck top in dot is just too cute!  I am so in love with the navy and mint pairing that I had to buy a pair of cords in this color despite never considering it an autumn tone.  This combo made me rethink that idea.  If you love them as much as I do you can find them here.

Invitation clutch in dot

Another new style that I've grown quite fond of recently is the clutch.  No longer seen as a "just for nighttime" piece, the chic handheld bag has quickly become a new favorite.  Sporting the dotted trend as well, the invitation clutch in dot is perfect for fall.

Polka-dot scarfPolka-dot scarf

Scarves can jazz up any outfit from shorts and a tank to a head-to-toe blazer, blouse, denim and ballets look.  Needless to say, I just couldn't pass up these beauties.  Soft and sweet, the polka dot scarf adds just the right bit of trend to your favorite pieces this upcoming season.

I can't wait to see how you style your favorite pieces and create your personal looks this coming fall.  Please be sure to share your ideas with me!

6 Simple Steps to Lash Love

There's just something so captivating about a well-lined, well-defined eye.  Believe it or not, it is not so hard to achieve.  I created this step by step how-to for you to use to do just that.

Step 1:  HYDRATE  The skin around the eye is extra delicate.  Be sure to always replenish it with a hydrating, property-packed eye cream.  Today's options are extensive and can be overwhelming.  Try to find those that contain hyaluronic acid, peptides, vitamin C or plant extract depending upon your age and your skin's sensitivity.  Most importantly, opt for those that have a sunscreen added in.
Some of my faves:  Ole Henriksen Fresh Start, Murad Essential C, Dior Capture XP, And DDF Protective Eye Cream with SPF Plus.

Step 2:  SMOOTH  Once you've plumped your skin with healthy hydrators, you want to smooth the surface so that your shadow and liner stay put.  Much like applying a face primer prior to make up, eyelid primers create a lovely canvas.  Great picks:  Mally Perfect Prep Shadow Base Duo, Urban Decay Eyelid Primer, bareMinerals Prime Time Brightening Eyelid Primer.

Step 3:  SHADE  It's amazing what a simple swipe of shadow can do for the eyes.  Seemingly neutral shades, when applied can bring your sparkling eyes from washed out to wow!  As a fan of understated beauty I tend to favor those found in lines such a Bobbi Brown, Laura Mercier and Urban Decay's The Nakeds.

Step 4:  LINE & DEFINE  Now this is where it gets into gear.  The lash line is the place where the look of lushness and length are anchored.  Always be certain to line the inner rim of the upper lashline first to get started on that effect.  A waterproof liner, preferably in black or dark brown (sometimes a dark navy blue can work too) is the best choice for this.  Once that's done you'll see an immediate difference. My favorite pencil to get the job done is Urban Decay's 24/7 Waterproof Liner.
Next, using a pencil for a more smudged effect or liquid brush liner for greater definition, gently line the upper lashline so it completes the lining of the inner rim.

Step 5:  PLUMP  Lancome has been long known for their expertise in the eyelash industry.  Their mascara is incomparable - we'll get to that next.  Before we do, though, let's talk about using a lash primer.  You may be thinking that this is step you can skip.  I once thought so to.  Grateful to be blessed with long, full lashes, I felt that mascara was all I needed.  Boy was I wrong!  By using a primer, not only do you increase the length and thickness of each lash, you also encapsulate your lashes in hydration leading to much less breakage and healthier lashes overall.  Trust me and give it a try.  The one I love:  Lancome Oscillating Primer...the vibrating brush does all the work!

Step 6:  LENGTHEN, DARKEN, SEPARATE and DEFINE  The final and most rewarding of our six steps is, applying mascara.  While we may have made what seemed to be a few extra steps beforehand, I'm confident you'll be seeing the payout once we're done.  Mascaras come in a tremendous variety but what I find most universal are those that lengthen and define using the proper amount of pigment (read: black).  Black and dark brown are the colors that look most natural.  You can also choose one that curls lashes as it's being applied.  Again, Lancome is my one stop shop for this.  While I have used and loved Hypnose, Definicils and Doll Lashes, my all time favorite is Oscillation.  As mentioned above, the vibrating brush gets in there and coats every single lash- even those you never knew you had.  As a result, you don't need to wiggle you brush and your lashes are their most beautiful.

So if the eyes have it for you, why not give these a try?  Please let me know your tips, ideas and favorite finds as well.  Thanks for reading!

It usually happens around August 1st, that little bell goes off in my head saying, "Fall is coming...so are the styles".  I guess this beckons back to days of being a school girl and anxiously awaiting the time I'd be refreshing my wardrobe for school days ahead.  Well, now that I'm all grown up, that bell still rings.  This year, however, after spending some time recently enjoying pre-season sales, the bell has already begun to chime.  I can't say I'm disappointed by this.  Fall is one of the most amazing seasons for shopping.  New colors, new patterns, new styles.  In light of this, I expect my posts will be closely chronicling many of my favorite finds for the chilly days ahead.  For today, I can't resist beginning with the most seen shoe of the moment.......The Cap Toe .

So let's get acquainted, shall we?

While this trend was originally seen using color blocking and similar fabrics, the use of metals, leathers and animal skin has now come into focus.

Mila dot-print ballet flats

The J Crew Mila Dot Print ballet flat features the patent leather option as it incorporates the use of pattern print also being seen a lot at the moment.

Mila cap toe leather ballet flats
A similar style minus the polka dots is this one also by J Crew that features again a patent toe cap paired with soft Italian leather and a wider elastic collar.  Comfy and classically chic.

Vince Camuto embraces this trend by mixing patent leather and the metallic look both on the toe and at the heel.  I like this subtle yet effective use of neutrals that offer just enough pop to speak to the moment.

Cece patent bow ballet flats
When selecting a pair of shoes, it's always smart to choose those that will give you the most mileage for your money fashion wise.  I find that neutrals and/or classically paired colors can take me through an entire season while playing nicely with both basic colors as well as those fashion forward hues.  The black and tan seen here on the Cece patent bow ballet by J Crew does just that.  Also, the little bit of lift that this one provides will keep both you and your feet happy all day long.

Current Image
Who better to turn to than Tory Burch for the iconic use of quilted patent leather coupled with the soft metallic toe cap and her unmistakable T logo?  As a huge Tory fan, I partiularly love, love this Kaitlin ballet flat.  Again, the perfect neutral but available in other colors as well.

Etta cap toe patent pumps
Now, for the working girl and lover of some daytime heel height, I found the Etta cap toe.  The width of the heel makes it perfect for a day at the office and the perfect partner for that navy and white polka dot pencil skirt.  Should red not be a favorite for you, it is also offered in bone and black.

Mona tassel heels
While on the subject of being well heeled, I couldn't pass on this one!  The Mona tassel heel is both retro and modern at the same time.  Hearkening back to the days of ladylike style, it would pair so nicely with a modern tweed blazer, fitted blouse and jeans as well as a sexy sleeveless shift dress.  Love options!

So as for me, I decided to go with these little caramel and ivory beauties {available soon at J Crew}.  The gold chainlink embellishment is something I had not seen everywhere else and that was a big selling point.  As you might guess.....my feet and I are quite happy.

Happy Tuesday!

Inspired by all things pretty, pink and well, perfect, I decided to use the alphabet for inspiration on today's post.  It's amazing how many ideas came to mind.....here are a few.

Some not pictured here...pedicures, pinterest, pendants, pillows, pencil skirts, peep toes, patent and pebbled leather, pleats, pave and pops-of-color.  Which of these particular pretties personifies you?

Welcome to Wedding Week by chic Saturday!  It's been a beautiful and enlightening journey to this point.  From reception sites and wedding themes to flowers and favors, I feel like I've learned so much about all the options brides have to choose from when creating their perfect day.  So many wonderful possibilities exist, each made to suit you and your style.

Now, the time has come to turn our attention to the one major component of that dream wedding that everyone is always, always so curious about.....the dress.  If you've been a bride or are preparing to be one {and even if you're not} you know how much time, thought and tearing up {happily of course!} goes into finding the one unique gown that is yours and yours alone.  For those of you at the start of this endeavor, please enjoy.....for those of you who will be a bride someday, here's to great inspiration.  Let's take a look...

This lace overlay gown with button detailing is gorgeous place to start.  Captured so beautifully by Kori Hudson, this dress is both elegant and romantic.  I especially love the look of the lace backing that demurely meets the bodice.  I would normally not choose something with this much lace, however, the style and design used here are simply perfect to me.

Wedding dress - Veronica wedding dress

Timeless, classic beauty that exudes the likes of icons like Grace Kelly ~ that is what comes to mind immediately upon viewing this one.  A sheer three-quarter length sleeve adds a sense of modesty to the otherwise strapless bodice giving this Veronica dress by Lyn Ashworth a ladylike allure that beckons back to a by gone era.

Pinned Image

Buttons up the back have long been a favorite of mine.  I do enjoy simple details and to me, they just say "bride".  This romantic choice by Allure Bridals features an A-line silhouette and lace v-neck backing that make for a striking pose.

Pinned Image

So simple, yet so striking.  I love the way the back of this gown gracefully drapes down the shoulders before meeting with the champagne silk sash.  Beautiful.

mainimage

No bridal gown post would be complete for me without a nod to the modern day style icon, Kate Middleton.  This dress was designed with Kate in mind as is evident from the v-shaped neckline and sheer lace sleeves that continue over the covered back. A royal beauty.

So there are several of what I consider my top picks for the dream gown.  As with all aspects of planning your wedding, the options here are amazing and plentiful.  Now, I can not end without mentioning a small yet highly significant detail each and every bride adores.....

The shoe

As all great shoe girls know, never underestimate the power of a shoe, for it can change your life forever......just ask Cinderella.
