Celebrating Fashion Independence

With the Fourth of July right around the corner, I thought what better way to kick off the weekend than with a fashion post designed to celebrate the birthday of our wonderfully beloved U.S.A.  Red, white and blue are such classic colors, drenched in nostalgic Americana-style history.  This is one fun way I came up with to pair them in somewhat of a Jackie O. inspired style, perfect for a holiday on the Cape.  What about all of you.....how will you be celebrating your fashion indepence this fourth?

Just One Way.....The Chelsea Ballet Flat

I promised you yesterday that I would share my take on how to wear the Chelsea, the newest sole sister to join the Tory Burch family.  Well, it seems the options are endless.  Given that we are basking in the sweet glow of summer, I decided to go with a seasonal pick, perfect for those New England summer night strolls.  I just love the classic combination of red, white and navy.  Truly perfect all year round and always a classic warm weather favorite.  It seems the scarlet red shoe has found its first place to play.  Would love to hear your ideas on how to wear this color or some of the other hues available....choices, choices!

Those of you who know me best are fully aware of my love of all things Tory Burch.  This blissful love affair began upon first meeting her beloved Reva.  From there the family has grown to include Eddie, Aaden, Caroline, Natalya, Thora and Emmy....just to name a few.
Now meet Chelsea, the latest in a long line of fashion greatness.  Classic, streamlined and oh so very wearable ~ this is a shoe I've been anxiously awaiting since glimpsing a sneak peek at it several months ago.  Here's why I'm so giddy, please take a look...

Simple, classic and elegant, this new addition to the Tory family is a perfect fit.

These little beauties are set to add that powerful pop to fall's more subdued clothing pieces.

Seen here in sunglow, jade and Persian blue, the names alone are enough to inspire styling ideas from far-off shores.  More on that tomorrow when scarlet red and black join in the fun.....

Meet Chelsea.....A New Friend for Reva

You don't have to say goodbye to the beach once the weekend or your vacation ends.  Of course, the sand, the sea, the shells...all evoke the tranquility and serenity that we never want to leave behind.  Inspired by this, I put together some home design ideas and pieces that effortlessly bring the beach indoors even if the coastline is miles away from where you are.

 Take a peek here...

Glass vases and seashells, cleverly placed alongside seasonal frames, come together beautifully to transform your space into a beach getaway.

Fill a glass bowl or small vase with different size and shape seashells.  Pair it with a few beach-themed frames that capture that seascape feeling and place them on a tabletop or shelf to get you in that beach day frame of mind.

I'm so in love with the color blue (all shades!)
and thought it was the perfect touch to add to this glass vase.  Try placing one on the corner of a table and pair with a complimentary colored candle.

Again, a shopping trip provides just the right element you may be looking to add to your home.  Here shells and coral work well together to add to your seascape.

Love the neutrals paired with the sea blues and greens....so summer!

These fun starfish pillows add a pop of color when used in a mud room or sun porch.

Laundry room lobsters!  These cute critters remind of a J Crew print and make for a fun way to transport the wash during everyday task time.

Favorite framed photos can really enhance the theme or feel of any room in the home.  I like the way this one is done in black and white.  It would easily compliment any paint or wall color choice, even similarly neutral creams, browns or blacks.

Finally, I couldn't leave without noting the clever irony of this pillow.  It's nautical theme was what first caught my eye.  It's striking display of the other kind of "sail" is what had me laughing.....I'm sure my fellow shopping sisters know just what I mean.  Thanks so much for reading!

These items can be found at Home Goods.  Similar styles are on sale and available at Pottery Barn.

As most of us are finding ourselves enjoying this time of year for exactly what it is, the start of summer, stores and fashion designers long before them, are embracing what some might call fashion limbo.  It's that time when nearly all the great summer styles seem to have vanished off the racks and those that haven't are being offered at unbelievably amazing prices.  Along with that, many vendors are presenting (or soon will be) their transitional lines also known as pre-fall. Personally, I happen to love shopping this time of year, ok anytime of year, but this is when it starts to get really inspiring.
J Crew is particularly adept at marketing their merchandise in two to three rollouts per season.  I love this because it gives you a taste of the season to come and lets you build your wardrobe in pieces, fabrics and styles that mix and match beautifully.
On a recent trip to my favorite preppy-chic mecca and its sister store, Madewell, I found some summer "still must-haves" along with a taste of a few ideas for crisper days to come.  Let's take a peek at some of the in store finds...

J Crew shoe wall!!  Here I found some great summer sandals and flats perfect for now as well as a few new suede lace ups that will likely be featured in future style guides.

Purses featuring rich color, warm neutrals and pops of pattern.  That cobalt blue is slated to be a mainstay come fall.

More shoes...

Madewell summer ~ easy, relaxed and always on trend.  Love the laidback look that lets your personal take on style shine through.

Madewell bangle bar and ring boxes.  These wrapped bracelets and neon trinkets are a fun and youthful way to add a pop of color to summer styling.

Love the fedora and of course, the scarf.

Have you noticed the presence of nautical-inspired pieces this season?  Jewelry is especially adorned by these by-the-sea symbols.  I found this anchor by Dogearred to be adorable.

Finally, never one to let the summer sun have its way with my hair or skin, I thought this striped floppy was just so charming.  Easy to dress up or down, this could be a piece I throw in my suitcase and go.  I found it at aldo but you can find similar styles here.

These looks and plenty of other similar cute ones can be found at
J Crew and sister store Madewell
